Port of Cork Welcomes Announcement of New French Service by BG Freight Line

The Port of Cork today welcomed the announcement made by BG Freight Line of a new weekly service between Rotterdam and the French ports of Montoir de Bretagne and Brest.
 
The new service will not only be calling at Rotterdam, Dublin and Cork directly to / from Montoir de Bretagne and Brest but will also be connecting both French ports with other ports in the BG Freight Line schedules such as Belfast, Grangemouth and Teesport through transshipment in Rotterdam. The service will be operated by 2 identical vessels of 803 teus sailing in a butterfly pattern.
 
Commenting on the new service, Captain Michael McCarthy, Commercial Manager Port of Cork said; “Despite challenging times, BG Freight Line have identified an unexplored French market which will help to better service the needs of the Cork/Munster region, while also opening up new opportunities for feeder traffic between France, Netherlands, N Ireland, England and Scotland. The Port of Cork fully supports this new service.”
 
The first sailing from Cork is on 23rd March 2010 and the first sailing from Montoir on 22nd March and Brest 23 March 2010.
