Hapag-Lloyd receives the Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year Award 2012
at the IEA Export Industry Awards
At the Irish Exporters Association’s flagship Export Industry Awards gala dinner, Hapag-Lloyd were awarded the Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year 2012 trophy. Mr Richard Bruton, T.D., Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, was guest speaker at the ceremony in O’Reilly Hall UCD and along with Mr Brendan Keating of the Port of Cork, presented the award to Mr Eddie Flanagan, Hapag-Lloyd.
As the award sponsor, Brendan Keating said that this award recognises the fact that no matter how good and desirable a product may be, unless it arrives to the customer on time, on budget and in pristine condition it will not be successful in international markets. Other finalists for the award were CMA-CGM Shipping Ireland Limited, Dublin and MSC Ireland.
The winner, Hapag-Lloyd, is the fifth largest global container carrier and is known for its reliability, customer service, productivity and innovation for environmental protection and efficiency. In Ireland, the company is the market leader to North America and also has well established markets to South and Central America, Africa, Southern Europe, Australia, East Asia and the Middle East. It offers its customers a range of services combined with 16 different container types including refrigerated containers for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Mr Colin Lawlor, President of the Irish Exporters Association, speaking at the Awards Ceremony said that the shipping lines , despite the current global economic uncertainty, are still managing to offer quality services to enable Irish exports to reach their global destinations competitively. “At the Irish Exporters Association we believe that exports will continue to be the driving force that will take the Irish economy out of recession and that shipping lines servicing Ireland will be at the heart of this export led recovery.’’
