Links between Cork and Cologne were formally established in May 1988 in Cologne and subsequently when a party visited Cork in May 1989 when the second stage of the formal twinning ceremony was completed. Since then the exchange has gone from strength to strength especially in the fields of education, training, music and athletics.

The Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Des Cahill echoed this enthusiasm for the project
“I look forward to welcoming our visitors from Cologne on behalf of the people of Cork City. Over the years, there have been numerous visits and exchanges between our cities. Relationships have been forged and maintained and lifelong friendships established. This is an exciting twinning initiative and I encourage the people of Cork City to come along on Monday 31st October to welcome the tall ship Brigg ROALD AMUNDSEN to Cork City.”

Cork City Council and the Port of Cork are excited about this innovative twinning project and look forward to welcoming the visitors from our twinned city of Cologne.
