Calling all 5th Class Teachers – Win a Free Boat Trip around Cork Harbour for your class

The Port of Cork has launched their Primary Schools Initiative for 2018 aimed at 5th class primary school children. Now in its 13th year, the theme of the Port of Cork Schools Initiative is ‘Cork City Quays – This is Your City – How do you see the Docklands area looking 30 Years from now?’

Port of Cork Chief Executive Mr Brendan Keating said: ‘This year’s theme is a little different to previous years in that the school children are being asked to focus on the City Docks area. It is our hope that as the Port of Cork prepares to relocate from a river port in the heart of the city to a deep-water port operating in the lower harbour, the school children will explore the history of the port in Cork City and how the relocation of port facilities will greatly change the landscape of the City Quays. We hope schools will also explore Tivoli Docks and the exciting potential that this river side land back could become.’

He continued: ‘The school children are the future and it will be exciting to see how they think Cork Docks will look in the future!’

Each year the Port of Cork has over 30 schools from both Cork City and county participating in the Schools Initiative and they hope that this year will be no different.

All 5th classes who take part in the Port of Cork Schools Initiative will be treated to a boat trip around Cork harbour, compliments of the Port of Cork and each class will also receive a certificate of participation. The overall ‘Best Project’ will receive a tour on board one of the many luxurious cruise liners visiting Cork during the summer of 2018. In addition to this, an award will also be given for ‘Best Artwork Piece’.

Projects are to be presented in artwork format using painting and/or models. All submitted projects will go on public display in the Cobh Maritime Development building before the winner is announced in May 2018. Closing date for entries is Friday 27th April 2018.
